Lay Ministries
Lay ministry refers to the many ways the laity (‘people”) of the church live out their baptismal covenant. Lay ministries involve the active participation of church members who are not ordained clergy, playing a vital role in the mission and community of their congregations.
These ministries are exercised through the organizations of the church – serving on the vestry, Christian education, leading prayers, assisting with worship services, assisting with organizing parish programs, music and pastoral care – visiting shut-ins or those hospitalized.
The ministry of lay persons includes bearing witness to Christ wherever they may be.
