Music Ministry

The Church of the Good Shepherd is blessed to have a wonderful music ministry still benefiting today from the organ donated by Mrs. A.N. Hand (Susan Everett Train) in 1927.

Following the fire in 1926, Mrs. Hand, niece of Francis William Lawrence and Lucilla T. Lawrence donated the organ in their memory. The organ came from “Longwood” the home of Bishop Frederick Cunningham Lawrence in Brookline Massachusetts.

The 6,105 pound organ was disassembled, crated and transported by D&H Railway to Westport. Modifications to the post fire plans in the chancel and vestry room had to be made to accommodate the organ. After arrival at the Church of the Good Shepherd it was reassembled and installed by Hock and Hastings Company of Kendall Green, MA.

In 2004, major work was done on the organ to rebuild the console to a more durable standard and to clean and repair the pipework. The organ has remained an integral part of worship services for almost 100 years.
